Balboa Island/Long Beach Aquarium

Today we got to spend the day not only with the other Deschamps, but also with the Hale Family. Zac, Nicole, Dylan, Ryder and Kinsley all came down from Bakersfield last night to chill with us - they even spent an hour or two with us at Disneyland.

We started out riding the TINY ferry (it carried three cars at a time) over to Balboa Island, which is actually just a peninsula, but it was still fun as far as I'm concerned.

Then we found the Beach at Balboa. A friend had told me where to go on the Island to find this beautiful beach and LOTS of seashells.

Preston finally doesn't mind the sand - too much.

Justin was always playing in the sand with the boys and Ella. He like to think he's so tough, but mostly he's a softie.

Looking for seashells - Ryder was my buddy and helped me find a ton.

Someone else had told us that you could find sand crabs if you dug down in the sand where the tide was coming down. The boys tried a few times at Newport Beach, but didn't find anything. While we were at Balboa Gavin was diggin his "fort" and dug deep enough that he actually found one.

At the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach we got to see huge tanks full of fish, baby sharks that they had put windows in the eggs for us so we could see them grow, Gavin got to see a sea turtle which he obsessed over, we got to touch starfish, urchins and anenomes in the tide pools, but I think the most amazing thing was being able to pet these HUGE Sting Rays!!

That's my boy!!

Justin is a softie but we won't tell. Looking at these pictures makes me want to be at the beach again - especially since it is sooooo cold now.
