This morning we woke up and it wasn't raining - very badly. We had been expecting rain all week, so we though we would take this "good" day and see as much as we could.
First we headed over to the Yaquina Lighthouse - our favorite. We LOVE the tide pools here - we could have stayed all day, or at least I could have. We even got to go up into the lighthouse - all the way to the top - all of us except Preston, who was too small. He was really upset and kept telling us how big he really was. Poor guy. Dave and the boys went up while I stayed with Preston and then when they came back I ran up - half way - and then lost my breath.
Then we headed into Newport to find the Yaquina Head lighthouse. When we came to Oregon last time, we missed this one - didn't know it existed. It is supposedly HAUNTED!!
They said that before they renovated it back in the 70's they tried to sell it, but no one wanted it. Can you imagine?? We would LOVE to have our own lighthouse and live on the ocean.
It was orginally built in the very early 1900's and used as a lighthouse for only a couple of years and then the Coast Guard used it for a while as their lookout point.
After our trip into Newport we went back to Lincoln City and found the trail to the Drift Creek Bridge. We had wanted to come last time we came (four years ago) but there was too much snow. This time we got all the way to the top, after a little car sickness - the roads were quite windy and I guess I drive a little crazy.
This hike was three miles round trip and was absolutely gorgeous!!! We all hiked with umbrellas, which was a first, but SO worth it.
What an AMAZING day.
