Gavin - A boy after my own heart.

When we went camping out to Cherry Creek last weekend, we were packing up to come home when the kids came across a baby mouse. He was crawling all around with no Mommy in sight - his eyes were still closed and he was SOOO cute!!! Gavin wanted to bring him home immediately. I told him it was probably going to die that we should leave it there for its Mom to find him again. Then he was really upset because it was going to die - he needed to bring it home and give it a chance to live. He was in TEARS!!! Finally, Dave told him to get a plastic cup, scoop it up and bring it home.
Once we got home we got the baby bottles out- that we used to feed some puppies a couple of years ago- and started feeding the mouse some milk. He actually did really well and would hold onto the nipple as I fed him. The next day he seemed to be doing really well and I even bought him a little cage so he didn't have to live in a carboard box anymore. I was feeding him a couple of hours later and I think he must have aspirated some of the milk in his lungs. He started breathing funny and died an hour or two later. I was devastated and Gavin was devastated.
What a sweet boy I have - to love something so much in such a short time.
