Preston's Story

Every night when I put the boys to bed they like for me to tell them their birth stories - Preston's seems to be a favorite lately so I thought I would write it down.

Christmas evening about 9:00pm I started having contractions about 5 minutes apart, by 2:30 in the morning on the 26th they were about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes apart but we were nervous about going to the hospital because of the huge snowstorm outside. We finally decided to go and packed up the boys - Justin and Lara had given them sleeping bags for Christmas which came in quite handy that night - and headed out into the storm. The snowplows had not been out so the snow hit the bottom of the car and the freeway was just one lane with 2 foot drifts on either side. We dropped the boys off at Grandma and Grandpa's in Payson and continued on our way - about a half a block from their house we got stuck, I prayed and prayed that we would get out and eventually we did. We got to the hospital and I was only dialated to a 2 but 80% efaced and Preston was Transverse - he was not head down. After consulting with my doctor the nurse told us that he would be coming in later that morning for an inversion - they were going to have turn Preston manually. They gave me my epidural, the doctor came in and they started the inversion - it took about 1 minute and they had him head down, a lot better than I thought it would be. The doctor held on to his head while they started me on Pitocin and broke my water so Preston couldn't go anywhere. They broke my water at about 7:30 am and I was at 5 centimeters at 1:00 pm and complete at 1:30 pm - I pushed about 7 times and Preston was born at 1:33 pm - he was face up instead of face down but that didn't seem to prolong anything.

As soon as he was born I could see that he looked just like Cooper - and now we can see his other brothers too.

He is a really good baby and just recently decided to sleep at night instead of being awake ALL night.

Sorry, all the pictures are backwards in order - I couldn't figure it out.

Sounds like my Marlee ~ she was headed bum down-they did the inversion and she still came posterior but she was stubborn and we pushed for 3hours. She came out so bruised. Preston looks beautiful. I am so happy for you! 4 boys Ginger-you are the perfect Mom! Have a wonderful new year.

Ginger, how come you look so pretty right after having a baby? I'm glad he's sleeping through the night for you. Cute pictures!

I was just thinking the same thing...if only we could all look as beautiful after delivering a baby! I'm glad you made it to the hospital. My sis-in-law delivered one of her babies in the car. That would have made a really fun bed time story though!

That is so cute, and a good idea to write his story down. He is going to be so spoiled with attention from his brothers! I love the pictures, I still can't believe Dave cut the umbilical cord!

Beautiful story. I am so glad that everything went well. I didn't know that Dave cut the umbilical cord?!?! I missed that part of the story. Dave is a little tougher than I thought! : )
And, you do look great!
