This past weekend we went to the Dew Sports Tour in Salt Lake.
We stayed in the Radisson which was just across the street half of the action and a block away from the rest of the action. All of the pros stayed at the Radisson as well so we got to see some big names: Ronny Renner, Jeremy Lusk (we also got his autograph), Robby Madison and a few others I can't remember -Dave knows who they all are and was able to point them out - A couple of times we didn't have anything to write on so we didn't get autographs, DARN IT!!
We decided we would go this year and stay the whole weekend for a mini-vacation - the boys got to pick between Dew Tour and Capitol Reef. We had a lot of fun, but there was a lot of waiting for general admission seating (which wasn't that grand) and it was sunny and hot. The boys got tired quickly and were bored a lot of the time. I did alright - it was VERY hard for me to stand for periods of time - I'm having issues of a certain baby boy sitting very low and feeling like my insides are going to fall out!! The boys LOVES swimming in the hotel pool though - we made 5 trips to the pool - a time or two Dave would go see an event and I would take the boys to the pool.
On Saturday evening we walked about three blocks up to the Lion House Pantry for dinner - I love their food!! Then we walked over to Temple Square and walked around. We watched the new family video presentation at the visitor center and cried - how nice it is to know that we are an eternal family, and I could't help but think about seeing my Dad again someday. The boys had asked earlier if they saw Jesus, could they get his autograph??
Sunday morning we headed over to the Planet - air - ium (as Dave calls it) and hung out there for a bit and then returned to the Dew tour. They handed out free hamburgers over the weekend so we got free lunch a couple of days - we got 11 free chapsticks, 6 or 7 free cheaply made backpacks, stickers and tattoos up the wazoo, all the free moutain dew samples you could stand, Dave and Gavin got free cans of Amp Energy drinks (just what Gavin needs), free pins and lots of junk!!
On the way home we stopped at my cousin Al's house for hamburgers and a swim in the hot tub. Thanks Al!!
Over all we had a great weekend, more than anything it was great to spend so much time with one another and make some great memories.

It looks like to guys are a very active family...that is great! I wish I could always be going on "mini-vactions"
-So fun to see all the cutie pie pics and hear about the weekend! Your boys are so fun! Like I say, it was cool to run into you guys a couple times! Yay!
-How funny to read about and see pictures of waiting, and waiting on the sidelines! Of course we did that a lot on Saturday too!...standing in the hot sun...our kids tried to be troopers too, but it got old for them! Russ was thrilled to be there for every second of it though!
-Here are parts of a letter Russ typed up to his little bro Derrick (while he is still in the MTC) about the Dew Tour--I thought you might want to read/scan it! He said it would be okay if I put it here on your comment section. With this on here, this may be the longest "comment" you will ever see!!! ;)
"We went to the first day of the Dew Tour yesterday. The 1st day is actually the best because there aren't that many people and you get to watch all the preliminary qualifying. We saw the FMX qualifiers. Did you know there is a kid who is ranked 24th in FMX on the Dew Tour and he's from Gunnison, Utah? He isn't quite as good as Nate Adams and those guys but he still does back flips, indian airs, a "nothing," and all the regular tricks. It was just kind of crazy to see him from Gunnison. We got to see the BMX vertical competition on half pipes, the BMX supercross racing stuff, and the skate park competition. We're now hooked.......I'm taking my whole family to the Dew Tour every year as long as it keeps coming to Salt Lake. Now the best part, there was a Yamaha display where kids ages 2-12 could ride a little 50cc Yamaha race bike. They are new bikes and Jaden and Ashlyn were actually racing dirt bikes around the track. They had helmets, gloves, goggles, pants, jerseys, etc...everything. Jaden went underneath Ashlyn on a corner and took them both out. They were fine but they kind of both crashed. there was Mongoose demo deal where you could ride on a BMX track. I went over a double nobody was clearing and jumped it. I did it like 6 times and on the 7th time I hit some loose dirt and ate it.....in shorts. It kind of gave me some really good road rash that stung like crazy when I took a shower. It's scabbed over now so I'm fine. Anyway......you totally have to come with us when you get home...We just got some pictures developed and I have some waaaay cool pictures of Angela and the kids at my desk. Two of them are of Ashlyn and Jaden riding Yamaha 50s around the demo track at the Dew Tour. They look like modified PW 50s with jacked up suspension. It looks like they're cruising but they were really just riding around an oval at about 8-10 miles per hour."
Now that Russ typed that up, I am thinking maybe I need to go back to our blog and add some of this stuff to it!
Great pics! Looks like a blast!! Glad you had a great mini vacation!!! Sounds like fun!!
What a fun time together. I want to go to the planet-air-ium someday. That's looks fun. you're kids are going to have so many fun memories. And what a neat thing to see the family video. I'd bawl but isn't it so nice to know we will be with our loved ones again someday.
Jess and I wanted to go, but didnt make it, I think laziness was a factor.
HOW FUN!! We took the kids down to Disney and all they wanted to do when we got there was swim in the pool... guess next time we will just book a motel and go swimming! We didn't even go to Disneyland until the next morning...
Looks like you guys had a blast. What a fun fam get away.
